Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: |
I tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a virus which affects my immune system. I can live with other friendly cats, because it can only be spread between cats through deep bite wounds from a positive cat to a negative cat. Many owners have FIV-positive cats living with their FIV-negative cats in harmony, including shelter staff! FIV cats often have similar life spans to cats without it, and FIV is typically only considered a health factor in cats when the cat becomes sick, as their immune system is weaker from the virus. This virus only infects cats, so I cannot spread it to dogs or humans or any other species of animal except a cat.
