Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
Copper is a young boy at around a year old. He is a friendly boy who bonds quickly and is very affectionate. If you're sitting, he wants to be in your lap! He already knows the sit command, and entertains himself very well with chew toys and plush toys. He has fetch down pat, but don't count on him bringing the ball back to you right away--'chase' is another favorite game! Copper also seems to have housetraining down for the most part, but may need a little more practice. He truly has such a sweet face and personality, and would make a great addition to just about any home.

He is not recommended for any homes with small children as he takes his food and toys very seriously, but really, who doesn't? As long as you don't try to take his food, treats, or toys away from him, he's a fantastic boy who would make a perfect dog for someone.

Volunteer notes, 5/17/24:
Today, Copper went for a walk around the facility and then spent time in one of the play yards. He would rather be walking!! He does pull most of the time on a walk but it’s easily managed. When I called his name, he circled back to me immediately, stopped pulling and we continued walking. He followed directions “wait” “come this way” and “sit” today. This boy is so curious about every little thing when he walks. Anything that looks different, he wants to go inspect it. On our walk today, he went nose to nose with a bumble bee that was sitting on a flowering weed and it lasted about 20 seconds. Copper was so gentle! In fact, the bee never flew away, it was Copper who walked away leaving the bee to its flower duties. It was so sweet to witness his gentleness!

Copper will be a fantastic hiking buddy. He loves the wooded areas and has the agility to trail hike for long periods. He also LOVES the water! He wanted to zoom after every puddle he walked thru! When another dog walked by the fence in the play area, Copper skipped over to the fence and just frolicked back and forth staying at least 2 feet from the fence. He didn’t bark and didn’t charge the fence at all.

Dog Day Out, 1/13/24:
We hiked a 2.5 mile trail at Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area...up and down and rocky in places. Copper was a trooper! He actually broke into a trot several times and had Amy and me trotting too! Walks well on leash and does well with the car ride. This beautiful and loving dog really did very well. When we came upon dogs on the trail he was interested but did not bark or growl. We loved him and want to take him out again soon!!! But I hope he gets adopted.
